Inspite of the harsh environmental conditions imposed by the climate and the attendant disease and forage production problems, it is generally agreed that Africa has an enormous potential for improvement in her livestock development. Efforts however to improve production do not appear to have yielded dividends over all. Among the many reasons for this are the lack of the understanding and proper knowledge of the interactions that militate against progress and socio – economic factors that make producers pursue old methods and raise stocks that seem to give little or no returns for their efforts.
