Meeting of chief executives of transboundary river/Lake Basin organizations in Africa: report of the meeting

Abstract

The paper briefly describes the historical background, the objectives, main activities/achievements, resource mobilization efforts, and problems faced by each of the transboundary river/lake basin organizations in Africa. It also touches upon the efforts that are presently underway in establishing intercountry cooperation mechanisms in two transboundary river basins, i.e. The Nile and the Zambezi. Finally, the presentation made an analysis and an overall assessment of situations in all the river/lake basin organizations in Africa and made number of recommendations.
