The Regional African Ministerial Conference on the Implementation of the Habitat Agenda was held at the United Nations Conference Centre (UNCC), Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 6 to 8 November 2000. The Conference was jointly organized by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, (UNECA) and the United Nations Centre for Human Settlements (UNCHS Habitat). The Conference was formally opened by H.E. W/ro Almaz Meko, Speaker of the House of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. A welcome speech was made by Mr. K.Y. Amoako, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa. Mrs. A. Kajumulo Tibaijuka, Executive Director of the United Nations Centre for Human Settlements (Habitat), made a keynote address to the Conference. A statement was also made on behalf of H.E. A. Dansokho, Vice Chairman of the Bureau of the Preparatory Committee for Istanbul +5.
