This recommendation takes its place within the framework of the co-ordinated efforts which the United Nations family is now making to correct the past neglect of the very important subject of trade promotion, particularly through, the United Nations Export Promotion Programme/ Recognizing the potential role which the1regional economic commissions could play in trade promotion matters in view of .their knowledge of the conditions in their regions, a meeting of the Executive Secretaries of the Regional Economic Commissions in July I967 agreed that each regional commission in a developing region should be a centre of initiative for the Programme, For this purpose it was recommended1 that regional trade promotion centers should be established in each commission and be operated under the direction of the respective Executive Secretaries.
