UNESCO/UNICEF joint programme the qualitative and quantitative improvement of rural education

Abstract

The need to improve the output of primary education both qualitatively and quantitatively is urgent in almost all developing countries. The problem of Wastage is most obvious and has attracted anxious attention for many years, but it is only one indication of a more general situation, that is, the inadequacy of educational provision. Especially in rural areas there is dissatisfaction with the quality of education provided in the schools, and in particular with the relevance of the attainments of the school leavers to their needs as individuals and as members of the community.
