Clothing industries in the Central African sub-region

Clothing industries, so defined as to distinguish them from the pro vision of tailoring as a retail trade or service, afford in all developed countries an employment dimension comparable to the textile industries in general. Thus, in the United States, 2/ total employment in "Apparel and related products" industries (in plants employing 20 persons or more.) is close to 1.2 million, some 29 per cent above the comparable figure for "Textile Mill Products"- In the six countries of the European Economic Community 3/ clothing industries employ 606,000 persons as compared to 1,715,000 in the textile industries.
