The meeting on Training in Demography and Population Programs was held at Yaoundé, Cameroon, from 22 to 6 January 1974. It was organized by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (in collaboration with United Nations Headquarters and the United Nations Fund for Population Activities) with host facility provided by the Government of Cameroon. The objective of the Meeting, was two fold: to
establish and sustain regional training centers and to support national
and intergovernmental institutions. This, coupled with a desire to
meet the growing need for specialized manpower in implementing development
programmes in the region, had led to the convening of the Meeting. after a review and evaluation of the training and research
activities in the region, the meeting would come up with recommendations
for improved demographic training and research facilities in Africa.
