These major structural features were responsible for the evolution of the basin and the cyclic carbonate-evaporite deposition during Aptian-Albian epoch. Contemporaneous with the deposition of the thick series of evaporites in the internal lagoonal basin, on the eastern shelf has been a sedimentation of terrigenous detrital strata and, on the western uplift, the building-up of reef limestones.
