The Persian Gulf crisis and the African economies

Abstract

This preliminary assessment of the economic impact and consequences of the Persian Gulf crisis and war,and the evolving events associated with their aftermath, insofar as Africa is concerned, is based on preliminary data and will need therefore to be revised continuously. The particular dimensions highlighted in the paper relate to trade (imports and exports), resource flows, the labor market, output growth and price trends, and the policy implications of the crisis and post-war developments for Africa.
