Distribution statistics in Africa

Abstract

This paper adopted recommendations on statistics of the distributive trades these are set out in Part I of the International Recommendations in Statistics of Distribution. Statistics of distribution are needed for a variety of purposes such as the provision of information for general economic planning and research. Statistics of wholesale and retail trade are needed for market analysis. These are also necessary for the compilation of national accounts and balances and have other uses such as the preparation of commodity balances, the estimation of consumers expenditure, the compilation of input-output tables, and price indices.
