This paper focuses on Institutional mechanisms for the advancement of women:| summary of the preliminary assessment report. The above objectives were to be achieved through the following actions: Vesting the responsibility for advancing women's issues in the highest possible levels of government; create and/or strengthen national gender machineries and clearly define their mandates and authority - these to include inter-ministerial coordination structures, networking and monitoring structures and structures for: gender main-streaming government and organizations' policies, programmes and projects; developing strategies and methodologies for mobilizing resources and the energies of women, men, and society in general.
