The last progress report on the African Household Survey Capability Programme (AHSCP) was presented to the workshop on household surveys for French-speaking African countries held in Addis Ababa in October 198 6. The present report attempts to summarize the progress made in the programme so far, with emphasis on the last three years. As in the past, a report will be given on the implementation of the three components of the AHSCP, namely the country programmes, the regional advisory service and training (working groups, seminars and workshops. Brief information on relevant activities undertaken by the MHSCP Central Co-coordinating Unit of the United Nations Statistical Office, New York, will also be given. Finally, the issue of co-ordination of the African Household Survey Capability Programme with other survey programmes will be raised.
