Trade and economic relations between the African countries and the socialist countries of Eastern Europe have been in existence for a long time but the modern dates back to the attainment of independence by the majority of African countries some twenty-five years ago. However, the past two decades have witnessed a steady increase in trade and economic co-operation between these two regions; assuming the growing number of concluded bilateral and multilateral agreements is one such measure.
