Priority Transport and Communications Programme for African Land-Locked Countries

Abstract

General Assembly resolution 38/150 adopted on 19 December 1983 requested inter alia the Executive Secretary of ECA to urgently prepare programmes on transport and communications of special importance to land-locked developing countries in Africa - As reported in the report of the Secretary-General to the General Assembly at its thirty-ninth session, consultations regarding this work were held with UNCTAD during the course of 1384.1/ The UNCTAD secretariat made available a team of experts, which visited all the land-locked African countries in May 19135 in order to assess the specific, needs and problems of these countries. The present report is based on the observations made during this mission and on previous and current work by UNCTAD and ECA on behalf of the African land-locked countries.
