The following report consists of four chapters. The first deals with the past, present and prospective consumption of iron and steel in Africa and the extent to which it has been supplied so far from the domestic iron and steel industry. The second chapter is concerned with the availability of raw materials and fuel for the expansion of iron and steel production and the third chapter deals with the economics of the industry including economies of scale, transport costs and prices.
