Abstract
At the Second African Population Conference held at Arusha, Tanzania in 1984, the African Governments reaffirmed their concern about population problems of high mortality particularly of infant and childhood, maternal mortality and prevalence of large differentials of mortality between rural and urban areas, socio-economic groups particularly for women with and without education, disease patterns and malnutrition. In order to promote population programmes which would provide solutions to major problems of high mortality African governments at the Conference advocated for closer co-operation and collaboration in undertaking research studies.
