The first part examines the characteristics of the demographic and manpower situation in Africa in 1960 while the second deals with the foreseeable changes between 1960 and 1980, Countries have been classified by region according to United Nations practice (see Table I of the Appendix). The United Nations estimates and projections of population have been used.
