Africa's trade has a major role to play within the context of the Second United Nations Development Decade, and as part of the African Strategy for Development in the 1970's, if the development requirements of the region during that period are to be met. The crucial questions that arise is whether there is need for a restructuring of Africa's trade that would help to achieve that goal and, if that is the case, along what lines such a restructuring should be carried out. The present study, attempts to assist in answering these two questions, starting from an analysis of the general developments in Africa's trade during the past few years.
