The sixth session of ECA was opening in the atmosphere of the relaxation of international tensions. The desire of the peoples for peace was merging ever more closely with their struggle for economic independence and social progress. The peoples were opposing imperialist methods of oppression and discrimination in political relations and in international economic and trade relations. Thus the extension of international economic co-operation, based on equality and mutual benefits was growing in importance.
