Report of the intergovernmental meeting of African experts on aspects of technology development in Africa

Abstract

The Intergovernmental Meeting of African Experts on Aspects of Technology Development in Africa was held in Arusha, United Republic of Tanzania from 3 to 8 October 1977. The basic concern of the meeting was technology, and the key issues were first that technological knowledge was not freely available to developing countries except on terms which were of ten extremely burdensome and second that there was a problem of dependence where technology was concerned. A third issue concerned the range and quality of capabilities. The meeting set up a Committee of the Whole to consider the Draft Agreement on the Establishment of th0 African Centre for Technology contained in annex II to document E/CN,14/ACTT/1.
