This paper analyses the economic performance of the thirteen countries generally defined as comprising East, Central and Southern Africa (Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Burundi, Malawi, Rwanda, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Lesotho, Swaziland and South Africa). The purpose of the paper is to inspect the extent to which these countries show convergence in their macroeconomic variables, and whether the relatively strong growth performances in the 2000s might be sustained.
