Abstract
This report evaluates Africa’s progress toward achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the African Union’s Agenda 2063, amid challenges from overlapping crises such as poverty, climate change, conflict, and economic fragility. It assesses performance on five key Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 1, 2, 13, 16, and 17) and their corresponding Agenda 2063 goals. Despite modest improvements—such as a slight reduction in extreme poverty and increased access to water—Africa still faces high levels of poverty, food insecurity, undernourishment, and weak disaster preparedness. The region accounts for over half the global population living in poverty and continues to experience rising food insecurity, particularly in East and West Africa. Climate vulnerability remains acute despite Africa’s minimal contribution to global emissions, highlighting the need for climate financing and adaptive investment. Progress on peace and institutional strength is hindered by violence and governance challenges. The report underscores the urgent need for structural economic transformation, stronger regional cooperation, and reforms in global financing to rescue both agendas.
