The background report on the sub-theme of zero hunger, prepared for the Tenth session of the Africa Regional Forum on Sustainable Development, highlights the urgent need to address hunger and malnutrition in Africa as part of Sustainable Development Goal 2 and Agenda 2063. Despite commitments made by African leaders, the continent is not on track to meet the goal of ending hunger by 2030, with alarming increases in undernourishment and food insecurity. The report outlines the state of hunger, food security, and nutrition, emphasizing the challenges posed by climate change, inadequate policies, and insufficient investment in agriculture. It also identifies opportunities for reform, including leveraging technology, enhancing partnerships, and mobilizing financing for agricultural transformation. Recommendations focus on policy development, infrastructure investment, building resilience to climate shocks, and empowering smallholder farmers to ensure food and nutrition security for all. The report serves as a critical resource for discussions at the upcoming forum and aims to inform strategies for achieving zero hunger in Africa.
