The report focuses on the fourth meeting of the intergovernmental committee of experts of the sub-regional development center for West Africa. The sub-region recorded a slight drop on the economic front, with GDP growth rates of 2.6 %in 2000 compared to 3.3 %in 1999 and 2,9% in 1998; three countries - Cote d'Ivoire, Ghana and Nigeria that usually contributed about 70 percent of the production of ECOWAS were not among those that registered significant GDP performances, that is, above per cent, in 2000.
