Contributions of ECA to government reforms in Ethiopia

Abstract

The ongoing activities contributed by ECA to Ethiopia government reforms are: a macroeconomic modelling training workshop was organized to build capacity in macroeconomic modelling for experts from the Ministry of Finance and the National Bank of Ethiopia. The workshop also provided an opportunity for a detailed work plan and areas of support that the institutions might need to ensure sustainability of the project in the near future. ECA is supporting the Government of Ethiopia in different ways in the implementation of the Agreement Establishing the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), including by commissioning a study that examines the likely macroeconomic impact of AfCFTA ratification by Ethiopia under different scenarios and its potential impact on revenues, the manufacturing sector and services; and supporting the translation into Amharic of the Agreement Establishing AfCFTA. In addition, the partnership also supports the Ministry of Innovation and Technology with the drafting of a national digital infrastructure strategy, which is currently focused on the expansion of the National Broadband Backbone for strengthening capacity for enhanced Internet provision to stimulate the digital economy. Also, ECA contributed in different sector like energy sector, Geographic Information Systems and geospatial technology support for Ethiopia in the utilities sector, Civil Registration and Vital Statistics, Population and housing census, and Gender and social development.
