It is proposed that, in line with the other plans for monetary reform, the IMF should introduce its own currency - let us call it the "bancor" which after a "transitional" period would be convertible (a) into gold, (b) into a set of goods representing the thirty or so major commodities used in international trade which have the twofold quality of general consistency and relatively long stock ability. The value of bancor in terms of gold should be fixed but not unalterably.
