Prior to independence, Tanganyika was linked economically with the other countries of the East African High Commission. By comparison with the more highly developed Kenya, Tanganyika was neglected since the former received most of the industrial development located in the East African common market. This paper contains basic economic data of population; education and health; natural resources; infrastructure; main productive activity and foreign trade.
