Economic integration is a collective path to development. This has been long realized by most countries in the West African sub-region and has manifested in the number of regional grouping found in the sub-region today. Of all these, the most embracing is ECOWAS with all the countries in the sub-region as members. The fanfare with which the inauguration of ECOWAS came into being soon died out with the member states not implementing some of its resolutions. This study is motivated by the fact that of all the lofty aims of ECOWAS, this is the most important and probably the most difficult to implement because a lot depends on the individual member states for its success. Many countries seem to have entered into the co-operation agreement without any intention of surrendering some measure of their sovereignty. Besides, there is the fear of domination by the bigger and wealthier member-states, in spite of the compensation mechanisms in ECOWAS Trade Liberalization Scheme. So, the earlier the Organisation unmasked these hybrid of problems being encountered by the scheme the better, if it must join other nations of the world in the march to development.en
