Water resources development in Africa : the role of the international bank for reconstruction and development (IBRD) and the International Development Association (IDA)

Abstract

The international Bank for Reconciliation and development the World Bank was founded at the Bretton woods Monetary and Finance Conference in July 1994, for meeting the pressing need for international capital to finance both the partner reconstruction of productive facilities and also the economic development of less-developed countries the world. The emphasis of Bank activity was on the urgent problems of reconstruction of the war-damaged economies in Western Europe, for which it made loans totaling $497 million in 1974. In recent years, the emphasis on agriculture has been increasing and in 1968/69 21 percent of Bank loans went agriculture. The emphasis on education and water supply is also rising, and 7 percent on Bank commitments in 1968 were for these purposes.
