Long term development needs in Africa and United States response: statement by Adebayo Adedeji

Abstract

This statement was made at the hearing of Subcommittee on Africa and the Subcommittee on Human Rights and the International Organizations of the Committee on Foreign Affairs. This paper covered long-term development needs in Africa and the United States response. The report discussed with five major issues, namely. First the nature of Africa’s problematique. Secondly, Africa is long and medium-term pregame strategies and priorities. Third, a preliminary assessment of the outcome of the special session and the significance of the United Nations Programme Action for African Economic Recovery and Development 1986-1990 (UN-PAAERD).fourth, ways and means by which the donor community can be most helpful in the realization of development priorities. Finally the special role of the United States – its people, Congress and government in support of Africa in its efforts to economic recovery.
