The ECA regular program of technical cooperation complements assistance available to African countries under Section l6, Economic and Social Development in Africa, of the medium-term plan for the period 2002-2005. The program will focus on the provision of advisory services and group training for the purpose of assisting member States in solving problems that they may encounter in their national development efforts. The regional advisers will receive the required support from substantive divisions, and administrative services. The program will aim at providing multisectoral support and advice to Governments In the fields of economic and social policy analysis; trade and finance for development: food security and sustainable development; development management; information for development; regional cooperation and integration: and advancement of women. The objective of this subprogram is to strengthen the capacity of member States to design and implement appropriate economic and social policies and strategies in order that they may achieve sustained economic growth, and to strengthen their capacity to adopt and implement measures aimed at reducing poverty in their countries.
