The food gap in Egypt

Abstract

This document focuses on the food gap in Egypt. This study examines the food gap problem in Egypt, explores its policy implications and provides some suggestions to redress it. The study focuses on the major food crops "(cereals) namely: wheat, maize, rice, sorghum and barley. The study will proceed by estimating the size and composition of food gap since 1967; projecting the food gap to the year 2000; analyzing the factors and policies that led to this gap; and, finally providing some suggestions that could lead to the reduction of this gap.
