Closing Remarks by Carlos Lopes UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of ECA at the Africa Regional Conference on Population and Development Ministerial Segment. Mr. Lopes on his remarks highlighted that, The Addis Ababa Declaration on Population and Development speaks for itself by making a strong stance to ensure the dignity and equality. It calls for new partnerships to reaffirm the continuous relevance and importance of population and related issues as key to development strategies. The concern this conference has raised about the considerable gaps that continue to exist in the availability and utilization of policy relevant data for planning, monitoring and evaluation is one I deeply share as well. At ECA, we will integrate these commitments in our programs and activities. We will work with all member States to translate commitments into actions on the ground. In partnership with the AUC, the Commission will submit your declaration to the forthcoming African Summit.
