The Chair of the African Group of Negotiators at the ongoing sixteenth Conference of the Parties (COP16) has ruled out any walkout by African countries from the climate change talks despite obvious challenges they face Cancun. In an exclusive interview with the Information and Communication Service (ICS) of the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), Mr. Tosi Mpanu Mpanu said that African delegations had arrived Mexico determined to stick together and stay the course on the talks. He suggested that some negotiators might be using delay tactics and other provocative acts to break Africa’s ranks and weaken its common position. “That would not work because we are determined to stay the course of the Cancun conference. We believe that law and science are on our side. That is why we are determined to use these two formidable tools, that is, international law and science to the fullest; and in the best interest of the people of Africa”, Mpanu Mpanu said.
