More than 100 decision-makers and senior experts on disaster-risk management experts from African countries, Europe, the Middle East and America are meeting in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to discuss “regional space-based solutions for Disaster Management and Emergency Response for Africa.” The Regional Workshop, which is being held from 6 to 9 July 2010, is organized by the UN Office for Outer Space Affairs (OOSA) in cooperation with the UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and with the support of the Government of Austria and the Secure World Foundation. The workshop aims at involving Africa more actively and promoting access for African countries to the use of “space –based applications and solutions targeting disaster-risk management, emergency response, and climate change and health-related issues.”
