A pioneering initiative by the ICT, Science and Technology Division of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa was presented to the First African Public Libraries Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa last week, during a ‘speed-geeking’ session. The initiative, known as Access to Scientific Knowledge in Africa (ASKIA) is an interactive online portal that acts as a one-stop shop to scientific and socio-economic knowledge on Africa, from Africa, by Africa, to Africa and the rest of the world.
