The Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), through its African centre for Gender and Development (ACGD) and its various sub regional development centers, is organizing a series of meetings within the context of the ten-year review of the progress made in the implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action for the Advancement of Women (Beijing+10). The main purpose of these sub regional meetings is to assess the progress made since Beijing 1995 and the cogency of the achievements realized so far in reducing inequalities between men and women both at the national and sub regional levels. The meetings will also focus on the various difficulties encountered in the implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action, and will endeavor to identify the means to be deployed towards bridging the gaps identified in the evaluation process. The outcome of these proceedings and the decisions emanating from the same will serve as a basis for the ten-year evaluation report on the implementation of the Beijing Platform in Africa, which should be Africa’s input into the global evaluation scheduled for 2005.
