A statement made by Mr. Carlos Lopes at the introductory meeting of the Summit for Financing Africa’s Infrastructure that was held on 14 June 2014 in Dakar Senegal. In his speech, Mr. Lopes said that the energy and transportation as it is for the water sector and information and communications technologies are abysmal in Africa. Africa’s largest infrastructure challenge is certainly in the power sector where there is inadequate generation and poor security of supply. With a population of 45 million, Spain generates as much power as up to 48 African countries. Indeed, only 38% of Africans had access to electricity as compared to 68% for all developing countries.
