The field of development economics is closely linked with economic history as well as with economic theory. Economic history is replete with stories of vicissitudes in the wealth and poverty of nations, and, nay, of continents, in the passage of time. Economic historians are given to elaborations of the forces, the circumstances and the events that have served or helped to shape or reshape the economic fortunes or misfortunes of nations. It is indeed the combination of economic history with economic theory and principles, development strategy and development programming and policies that has bequeathed to us what is now known as the economics of development.
