Sedimentary rocks are of greater interest in oil exploration, greater detailed knowledge of the different types is necessary for understanding the present document. It is unanimously accepted that petroleum has been generated by transformation, most probably bacterial composition of the remains of the organic life accumulation on the floor of a basin of sedimentation with an abundant supply of organic matter an anaerobic environment and a moderate deposition not too slow but too rapid of sediments. The sedimentary covered at surface by post-Paleozoic lava flows associated with the major fault systems should be c0nsidered likely to offer very little or no petroleum prospects. Such areas are the basalt plateau in Ethiopia and Kenya following the Rift valley, and the alignment of volcanic in Chad and Libya.
