The diverse nature of African societies makes an examination of the roles of the African woman difficult. In addition, since relatively little attention has been given to women’s roles in production, and distribution, there is a dearth of comparable data. but available data show definite trends, as seen in the examination of women’s roles in agriculture, marketing and the household, and review of their opportunities for education and training. It is time, to examine the mode of production of Africa’s food supply and the work force for the same. It is time to recognize that the major food producers for Africa are women, and to assess the impact of change on their productive capacities in agriculture and marketing, and their household worker.
