The purpose of this report is to provide member States of the Western African Subregion with some idea on the qualitative implications of. economic co-operation in the development of metallurgical industries. The changes to be anticipated in the level of total metals requirement and consequently, raw materials demand have an important bearing on policies and programmes with respect to subregional cooperation investments needed for economic expansion and general modernization and growth of the economic of the subregion. The report attempts to show the major concepts forming the basis for the development of metallurgical industries and possible modalities of co-operation in the subregion, emphasizing areas of complementarities and specialization.
