This issues note focuses on the inter-linkages among population, environment and agriculture as they affect food security and sustainable development in Africa. An understanding of these linkages is necessary first step in policymaking to achieve sustainable food security. The Economic Commission for Africa has developed an advocacy tool, the Population, Environment, Development and Agriculture (PEDA) model to promote better understanding of the population-environment-agriculture linkages by African planners and policy makers.
