Sustainable consumption and production are central to enabling countries to achieve sustained economic growth and poverty reduction. At the world summit on sustainable development, held in South Africa, 2002. The representatives of the people of the world encouraged and promoted the development of a 10-year framework of programs in support of regional and national initiatives to accelerate the shift towards sustainable consumption patterns. The resulting Marrakech process was launched in 2003 as a global multi-stakeholder process to support the implementation of sustainable consumption patterns. In addition, the United Nations conference on sustainable development, as informed by the Marrakech process, clearly declared the promotion of sustainable consumption patterns as an essential requirement of sustainable development. African countries have been implementing the global 10-year framework of programs on sustainable consumption and production patterns within the context of the African 10-year framework program on sustainable consumption and production, which was approved at the African ministerial conference on the environment in 2005. The objective of the present document is to synthesize the state of the progress in implementing goal 12.
