Côte d’Ivoire has long been the main development hub of the West Africa region. The country experienced a sustained pattern of growth during the period 1960-1980, known as the “Ivorian miracle”, followed by a long decline. From 2002 to 2011, the country was in a deep political crisis that evolved into a civil war, affecting its economy and social cohesion. Since 2012, Côte d’Ivoire has experienced high rates of growth in real gross domestic product (GDP), averaging 9 per cent during the period 2012-2015. The aim of the present study is to carry out a comprehensive review of inequality in Côte d’Ivoire in order to increase the awareness of policymakers about the various dimensions and drivers of inequality, and provide empirically grounded improved design and implement multidisciplinary public interventions and programs oriented towards greater equality.
