African stakeholders and partners developed a regional implementation version to the MAPS: the Reference Regional Strategic Framework for Statistical Capacity Building in Africa (RRSF). This framework is expected to strengthen the capacity of countries’ national statistical systems to respond to the information needs in support of their development efforts. In order to support the monitoring and evaluation of progress--or lack thereof-- made in the implementation of the RRSF, the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) has developed the African Statistical Development Index (ASDI). The index has the following objectives: (i) support the monitoring and evaluation of the implementation of the RRSF; (ii) identify for each African country weaknesses and strengths in order to support interventions, and; (iii) provide a general idea of the performance of African countries’ statistical systems. The report is structured into two parts: (1) Presentation and analysis of the existing ASDI; (2) Potential areas for renovating the ASDI.
