The proposed African Social Development Index (ASDI) is built on an important premise that social development should be reflected in the improvement of human conditions. Too often, the focus is on measuring contextual elements that are expected to have an impact on improving people’s lives, such as expansion of coverage and increased involvement in planning and service delivery.
