Over the last decade, Africa has recorded sustained and impressive economic growth. One quarter of the countries grew at an average of about 7 per cent or more, and some were among the fastest-growing countries in the world. However, this growth needs to be reoriented to provide a strong basis for sustainable development. In particular, growth has been underpinned by relatively high commodity prices. This report presents Africa’s sustainable development priorities and goals, prepared under the framework of the Africa post-2015 consultations, and the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (“Rio+20”) follow-up processes. It is based on information gathered through consultations undertaken in the five sub regions of Africa and from an extensive literature review.
