The main objective of the meeting was, for participants to reaffirm their commitment to implement, monitor and assess the international, regional, sub regional and national agreements and initiatives entered into by the member States. Whose objectives are in line with the Convention on the elimination of all forms of discrimination against women, the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, and the Millennium Development Goals, among others; and to accelerate the implementation of the 12 critical areas of concern of the Beijing Platform for Action, the Maputo Protocol to the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights, the Solemn Declaration on Gender Equality in Africa and the outcomes of the International Conference on Population and Development.
