The generation, diffusion and application of technology in the public and private sectors to meet economic and social aspirations and challenges, have been one of the drivers of Africa’s success in the last decade. The visible face of the contribution of technology to Africa’s socio-economic success story include the rapid diffusion
of mobile communication technologies that have opened up new business opportunities, created jobs, especially for the youth and women and connected more people to modern communication systems, as well as the rapid uptake of anti-retroviral drugs that are extending and improving the quality of the lives of millions of HIV/AIDs infected people. There is hope that Africa can leapfrog several stages of development by capitalizing on the abundant technologies to improve the lives of its citizens.
